Why do we love? Is it a need, a compulsion? Is it under our control? Why do we single out or segregate a set of people we’re ready to give it all up for? Are they ‘nice’ people? Is it because they love us back? Is it the compatibility, or is it the incompatibility?
Love makes us feel Human. Not just being loved, the ABILITY to love makes us feel human. Because with it comes sacrifice, concern, giving. And these are traits we don’t think we possess.
So, when you wake up an entire night worrying for someone or helping them out.
When hearing someone’s voice after a long time fills you with emotion.
When your opinions and judgements are get direction from the views of certain other people.
When someone cracks a joke and you look around for a particular face to find out whether they find it funny and then decide whether you did as well.
When you give out your Favourite possession, you swore you wouldn’t part with, ONLY to your best friend.
When parents save and cut down on spending, so they could splurge on their children later.
When you forget about your exams because a friend is feeling low.
When you drive back and forth for hours, just so u could see someone for a few minutes.
When your happiness is defined by the happiness of other people.
It all makes you feel human. And magnanimous.
We love because it makes US feel special, and it also happens to serve the dual purpose of making the other person feel special as well. We love because it brings out the best and worst in us. We love just to see how far we can go.
